Kirsten Dunst started her career as a child fashion model at the early age of three for certain television commercials. She later signed a contract for the Ford Models and Elite Model Management where she continued to do more modelling for both TV and Print Ads. In 1988, she made her first television debut for an episode with Saturday Night Live where she played the role of then President George H.W. Bush’s granddaughter. Her entry to the bustling world of showbusiness began in 1989 when she made her acting debut for Woody Allen’s film Oedipus Wrecks, a movie anthology based on the New York Stories screenplay. She then went on to do several movies like Bonfire of the Vanities where she landed a small role as Tom Hanks’ daughter and did the voice of Kiki in the 1989 anime flick Kiki’s Delivery Service when it was released in America in 1997. Television appearances were not far behind and she did some guestings on the seventh season episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation where she played the character of Hedril and had a recurring role of a child prostitute in the top-rating medical drama ER.

In 1994, she was part of the cast of a successful screen adaptation of Little Women where she played the role of a young Amy March. But her biggest achievement in Hollywood came during the same year when Kirsten made her first feature film debut in Anne Rice’s Interview with The Vampire where she starred opposite Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. In this movie, Kirsten received her very first onscreen kiss with Brad at age eleven. Her performance for the movie earned her a Golden Globe award nomination. She also appeared in the fantasy adventure movie Jumanji alongside Robin Williams in 1995 and starred in Sofia Coppola’s independent film The Virgin Suicides in 1997 and at the same time did another full-length animation film for FOX Animation Studios’ Anastasia where she did the voice of the young Anastasia.

Her biggest role to date came in 2002 when she was offered to play the role of Mary Jane Watson in the film adaptation of Marvel Comics’ Spider-Man, starring opposite Tobey Maguire who played the lead role of Spider-Man and his alter ego, the mild-mannered Peter Parker. It was a huge success in the Hollywood box-office that she retained her role as Peter Parker’s love interest and appeared on two other Spider-Man sequels in 2004 and 2007 respectively.
